Of
the approximately 390 students who have received Ph.D.s from the department
since 1993, about 80% now hold full-time academic positions at the assistant
professor level or higher at a wide range of institutions. Among them are
Harvard, Yale, Berkeley, University of London, NYU, Chicago, Columbia,
Barnard, University of Texas, Rutgers, Cornell, SUNY, Stanford, and
Georgetown. In the past few years, our students received job offers at, among
other places, Rutgers University, University of California, Berkeley,
Williams College, Yale University, Duke University, University of
Pennsylvania, University of Houston, the US Naval Academy, Purdue University, Temple University, University of Houston, Connecticut College, and Richard
Stockton College of New Jersey. Another 10% of our graduates have gone into
public history, including museums, libraries, and historical societies.
Some of our graduates have chosen not to remain in academia and have pursued
careers in, among other things, government, foundations, journalism, business,
and law.
