2009 Crown Finalists Chosen

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association announced the finalists for its 2009 Crown Awards program for scholastic (middle, junior and senior high school) and collegiate publications at Columbia University in New York City.

A total of 1,771 newspapers, magazines and yearbooks published during the 2007-2008 academic year were eligible in the 2009 Crown Awards program.

Since the CSPA dates its awards by the year in which they are given, this announcement concerns the 2009 Crown Awards.

The grand total of all Crowns to be presented in 2009 consists of 34 magazines, 54 newspapers and 44 yearbooks. Crown Award finalists are guaranteed to receive either a Gold or Silver Crown Award in March 2009. No further judging will take place.

Scholastic and Collegiate Crown Awards are presented at separate ceremonies on two different days in March, 2009.

CSPA's Annual Scholastic Convention

The CSPA invites high school students and faculty advisers to attend and celebrate CSPA’s 85th Annual Convention. This national gathering of student editors and faculty advisers to newspapers, yearbooks, magazines, video productions, and online media will be held at Columbia University from Wednesday, March 18 through Friday, March 20, 2009.

Delegates can choose from more than 350 sessions organized in seven sequences: newspaper, yearbook, magazine, online media, video/broadcasting, law and ethics and advisers. All seven sequences will run simultaneously throughout the three days of the convention.

Throughout the Convention, our hourly schedule boasts a variety of special events, including Advisers’ Luncheons on Thursday and Friday. In addition, the Columbia Scholastic Press Advisers Association (CSPAA) will meet on Friday.

The winners of the Crown Awards for top publications and the Gold Circle Awards for top student individual awards will be announced and presented at the Awards Convocation on Friday afternoon.
